I have a diverse background which includes over sixteen years in the warehousing / purchasing field. During this time, I
worked my way up from an entry level position to warehouse manager.
I also spent over thirty years in the emergency service and security fields. I served on mine rescue, police, fire, sheriff's
posse and ambulance services during this time. I was also a hotel security operations manager and headed up a
regional emergency response organization.
While in these positions, I shared responsibility for employee training. I put on new hire, safety and emergency response
training courses. I even developed some of the training material used in these classes. This material was based on
emergency response and instructor training I received through various educational institutions. Here is a short list of
those institutions:
Northwestern University's Traffic Safety Institute State Fire Marshal's Office
Truckee Meadows Community College Nevada Safety Council
Nevada Division of Mine Inspections (MSHA ) American Red Cross
California Division of Forestry American Heart Association
Arizona Law Enforcement Officer Advisory Council FEMA
Nevada Highway Patrol Arizona Highway Patrol
I've since gone on to develop training workshops on various topics. These include workshops on security,
safety and warehousing operations. I also have a workshop focusing on hiring contract laborers. Did you know
for instance, you can be held financially liable for a actions of a contract laborer. You can click on the "Course
Synopsis" button below to get more information on this topic and see a full list of other workshops offered
through SPCFreelance.
My formal training includes courses in journalism, creative writing, resume' formatting, technical writing and report
writing. I've also received training in drafting budget proposals for small organizations.
My first actual writing job though was a stringer for two newspapers. I wrote short articles on events occurring around
our county. Later, I took over a weekly column for another paper. I've also had articles published in numerous
magazines.
On the more technical side, I've drafted employee job descriptions, training guides, budget proposals and emergency
response protocols. I was also responsible for assuring the accuracy of police and security reports before they were
processed.
I even authored the rough and final draft for a regional emergency response program. The program was adopted by a
county and several municipal entities. A state then adopted the program as a funding model for future emergency
response programs.
I am now expanding further into the writing field. If you have a project you would like to discuss, feel free to contact me. I
would be interested in helping you develop your project.
